iran says it will free uc berkeley graduate sarah shord over the weekend tlchl is no word yet on the fate of sarah's boyfriend and their friend. abc 7 joins us now with reaction from family and friends. >> reporter: as it stands now, the iranian government is saying they will release sarah shord saturday morning in tehran. of course that is late tomorrow night here in the bay area. i talked with several of her friends today. they say they will not rest easy until sarah is set free. >> i'm still holding my breath. >> a friend of sarah shored and her fiancee is hopeful reports shord will be released saturday morning are true. >> i can't wait to see sarah and all of them come home but goitsing to be hard to believe until, you know, i'm giving them a hug and to see them back in the united states. >> the three have been held

elsewhere in east oakland a 40-year-old woman heard commotion so she opened her door and was shot. she's in stable condition at the hospital. >> we just asking that the violence stop. we asking people put their guns down. >> a third shooting left a 22-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the leg. there have been 61 homicides so far this year. there were 73 at the same time last year. >> the suspect accused of opening fire on police in july's wild oakland free shootout is talking in a jail house interview. byron williams talked about his confrontation with police and planned for a killing spree he hopes would spark a revolution. he claims the 12 minute gun battle july 18th was not part of a plan. >> i'm not a cop killer. i have no intention of doing anything to any police. and the fact we're living

mandates lifetime parole for specified sex offenders. john gardener is the sex offender who killed chelsea and another 14-year-old girl. he is now serving a life sentence wout possibility of parole. a california woman given a life sentence for killing her abusive ex-boyfriend then paroled has a special request for governor schwartzeneggar. rose parker is asking for a full pardon. i talked with her today before she left to file a formal request. >> i should have been pardoned f i don't fight for it, if i don't pursue it, it will be dropped to the ground. >> rose parker was paroled from prison 10 years ago by gray davis. she's now filing a request to governor schwartzeneggar for a pardon based on innocence. i first met rose 10 years ago at california institution for women. she was serving a 27-year to

life sentence owe for killing her abusive exboy boyfriend, a powerful, wealthy older man. >> i'm pregnant. by 19 month old son is there. the bullet hit my brother and hit him. wounded by brother, killed art. >> rose was 23. she served 15 years before governor davis ordered her paroled. he says parker commit aid grave crime, however this, case has characteristics of battered women syndrome. now legally recognized offense not available at the time of her trial. now, res is known as dr. rose parker sterling. she's married to a southern california minister michael sterling chlgt she reunited with the children who grew up without her, won awards graduated from theology school and counsels battered women. but the pain from that awful day will always be with her. >> it's like a weight it's a

in the house. not in the landfill but in this house. they have not said yet if it's the missing son. and of course a full report at 6:00. >> let's turn our attention torj news. by important news, california could take a major step to protect patients from dangerous levels of radiation. there is a use of monitoring devices such as ct scanners. carolyn? >> that bill is on the governor's desk now awaiting signature this, push for regulation came about after hundreds of cases of radiation overdoses and a prominent hospital in southern california were made public. when the president opted for a virtual colonoscopy, the choice fueled debate about the use of the powerful ct scanners. according to a recent study at

ucsf they may pose radiation risk. >> this is higher than commonly known. >> the study led a-to-a raidsation study involving computed tammo graphy found doses of radiation vair qeed widely depending on hospital protocols and which technician was operating the machine. >> they're highly variable. the dose received for the same study could vary up to 20 fold. >> she found a high doses approached levels linked to radiation poisoning. the fda expressed concern after cedars-sinai in southern california admitted it had miss stickenly overdosed more than 200 patients giving some up to eight times normal dose. equivalent of 50,000 chest x rays. because of the concerns california lawmakers passed a bill to put new safety

measures in place to protect patients from receiving too much radiation. the bill requires hospitals and other facilities to require actual level of radiation and to include that in the file as well as ct scan report. any dosage of 50% or more above normal has to be reported to the health department. the bill sets up a new accreditation program for technicians but does not provide money to pay for the training. >> we may be creating a big brother bureaucracy for something may be would be better solved by a bottom up, rather than a top down approach. >> this professor of radiology helped push for a radiation safety committee. still, he believes improved safety technology could soon solve problems without excessive regulation. >> this is last problem and up

authorities say it's unlikely any charges will be filed against a driver of a dump truck. 13. >> i truck has been towed to a place where there is mechanical inspections. the driver says he couldn't stop the truck while leaving the off ramp. and five people suffered injuries. >> san mateo native tom brady was in a car accident this morning. he's okay and went to football practice saying his audi collided with a fast-moving minivan coming from another direction. the crash knocked over a pole.
